2009 - THE SALESIAN HOLY YEAR

Our hearts are filled with gratitude as we look back at 2008, a year full of God`s blessings! Much has been accomplished by the hard work and sacrifices made by all of us. Let us thank God for having given us the strength to achieve great things for our beneficiaries in the past one year.

As we begin 2009, the Salesian Holy Year, I wish all of you God`s choicest blessings. May this year and all the different activities of this year help us go closer to our roots, to Don Bosco and his charism of Da Mihi Animas Cetera Tolle, as we celebrate the 150th anniversary of the founding of the Salesian Congregation!

75 Years in Retrospect

As we are in the Platinum Jubilee of our Province, I thought it apt to go back in history in some form to recapture the high lights, the twists and turns that shaped our beloved province to what it is today. In order to do this, I requested the former provincials of our Province (those who are living) themselves to speak. I posed two questions to them.

The response of the former Provincials is very enriching and it gives an overview of the different thrust they gave to the Province in keeping with the needs of the time, and the significant moments in carrying out their dreams. I thank our Provincials for their willingness to respond so promptly to my request and for all what they have been to us and the Province. I also thank the Vice-Provincials, Economers, and the Council Members who assisted them in all this.

A CHAT WITH DON BOSCO ABOUT THE PLATINUM JUBILEE OF OUR PROVINCE

``I am happy that you recall those generous Salesians with so much affection. Let me not beat around the bush! I will come to the point directly. What about sending a few of your good and generous Salesians as missionaries to other parts of India and abroad as part of this grand celebration?!`` says Don Bosco

Learning to Understand Suffering

Sufferings and trials have the effect of purifying our thoughts and actions. It is like fire that purifies and refines ordinary metal and makes it glowing. Suffering and trials, as our Provincial put it so aptly, can change our perspective, our way of looking at the world and all that happens around us and within us. They have the capacity to promote spiritual maturity. Problems can make us humble and we become capable of surrendering ourselves to the mercy of God.

INM Circular - Born Free

August is the month that reminds us of the great truth we call FREEDOM. For us, Indians, the 15th of August reminds us of our political freedom and for the Catholic Church, the same day stands for our spiritual freedom. Freedom is a much debated concept. We can speak of outer freedom and inner freedom; freedom from and freedom for; positive and negative freedom and political and spiritual freedom... Read more..

INM Provincial Circular for July 2008

The word ``jubilee`` is derived from the Hebrew word jobel, which means ``ram`s horn``; since it was precisely that horn which was used as a trumpet, whose sound indicated to everybody the beginning of the jubilee year. The book of Leviticus speaks of the significance of the jubilee year, a year of liberation ``par excellence,`` which is at the end of seven weeks of years, the fiftieth year.
