Two new priests for IND; both Marams of Manipur

It was a moment of grace, blessing and celebration for the Marams of Manipur, as Deacon Hingba Michael from New Maram and Deacon Anthony Rang from Maram Khullen, the biggest and ancestral village of the Marams, were ordained priests of God by Archbihsop Dominic Lumon of Imphal on January 29, 2012 at St. John Bosco Parish, Maram.

The first and the only Salesian of Dimapur Province for 2011-2012, from Assam, was ordained a priest of God, on January 15, at Catholic Church, Margherita, by Rt. Rev. Joseph Aind, SDB, DD, Bishop of Dibrugarh.

Ethnique12-Cultural Tourism Festival at Jorhat focuses on Mising Tribe

The festival that kicked off at 5.00 pm on January 06, 2012, at Life Plus, Jorhat, was unique in every way. It was termed Ethnique12, a cultural tourism festival, focusing on the life and culture of the Mising tribal community. This was the first edition of Jorhat`s Own Annual Tourism festival, inaugurated by the Superintendent of Police, Dr. Sanjukta Parasor, IPS, of Jorhat.

Don Bosco statue installed in Dimapur town

On December 03, the statue of Don Bosco was unveiled and installed at Walford, Dimapur, by Shri. T.R. Zeliang, Hon`ble Minister for Planning & Co-ordination, Evaluation, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry and Parliamentary Affairs, Govt. of Nagaland, to commemorate the visit of the Relic of Don Bosco to Dimapur Province. An august assembly of 400, consisting state and district dignitaries, priests and religious, DB Alumni, students and special invitees witnessed and participated on the occasion. It was blessed by Rev. Fr. James Poonthuruthil, Salesian Provincial, Dimapur.

The Don Bosco Alumni Dimapur Provincial Federation, held its third Annual Day on December 03, 2011 at Don Bosco Provincial House, Dimapur, in the presence of Noel Maddhichetty, National Delegate of Don Bosco Alumni, Shri. Rajiv Tikmani, National President of Don Bosco Alumni and Shri, Rajesh Gupta, World Confederal Member and former President of DB Alumni India.

Fr Klement Vaclav, Councillor for Missions visits Dimapur Missions

Fr. Klement Vaclav, Councillor for the Missions visited the Province of Dimapur from November 16-21, 2011. His focus was the Arunachal Missions, since in his earlier visit it was not materialized. On his arrival, 16 November, he was first taken to Don Bosco School, Borduria, where he was accorded a warm welcome by the boarding children, co-operators and the parishioners. Early in the morning of 17 November, Fr. Joseph Thottappallil, drove Fr. Vaclav and those accompanying him viz., Fr. Jose Pallely, Fr. Mathew Tharakan and Fr. Anto Tharakan to Ottongkhowa, where a school is under construction. Though the road seemed rough, wild and dusty, they were gladdened by the smiling welcome they received from the children as well as the people. After the Breakfast and a little felicitation, the visitor had a look at the construction going on. Presently the school is being looked after the Disciple Sisters and teachers under the guidance of Fr. Joseph Thottappallil.

Journalism for Social Action - a workshop in Dimapur

A week long workshop was organized on Journalism for Social Action at Salesian College of Higher Education, Dimapur, for the 44 outgoing students of the college, with the aim of bringing awareness of the impact of media in society and how media can be an effective and powerful tool for bringing about reform and development in the society.

Assam Agricultural University Vice Chancellor visits I-CARD, Jorhat

Dr. K. M. Bujarbaruah, honourable Vice Chancellor of Assam Agricultural University (AAU), Jorhat, together with Smti Krishna Gohain, the Registrar, visited the Institute for Culture And Rural Development (I-CARD) campus on 13th November, 2011. They were accompanied by Dr. Konwar from North East Institute of Science And Technology (NEIST), Jorhat. The purpose of the visit was to acquaint themselves with the activities of I-CARD.

The 13th annual socio-cultural seminar for Misings started off at Life Plus, Jorhat, on October 28, 2011, at 6.00 pm. The annual seminar is an effort at internal transformation by the Institution for Culture And Rural development (I-CARD) based at Jorhat.
